Some sculptures are enormous and highly detailed, often recreating famous buildings, historical scenes, or popular characters.
At night, many sculptures are lit with colorful lights, creating a completely different atmosphere. The illuminated snow structures are one of the highlights of the festival.

Susukino Area
Susukino is Sapporo’s main nightlife district, and during the festival it becomes the ice sculpture area.
Here you can see detailed sculptures made entirely from clear ice blocks. Many of them are highly intricate and polished to look like glass.
An ice sculpture contest is also held, where skilled artists compete to create the most impressive designs.
Because the area is surrounded by restaurants and bars, it also offers a lively evening atmosphere.
After the festival ends, the ice sculptures in the Susukino area are quickly dismantled. Heavy machinery begins removing the sculptures late at night on the final day or early the next morning.
This is done to prevent accidents as rising temperatures can cause the ice to collapse. The demolition happens surprisingly fast, and watching the process can be an interesting sight in its own way.
Tsudome Area
The Tsudome site focuses on interactive snow activities, making it especially popular with families.
Visitors can enjoy winter attractions such as:

- Snow rafting
- Snow play areas
Inside the dome building, there are food stalls selling warm meals and drinks.
This indoor space also provides a place to rest and warm up during cold weather.

Odori Park and Susukino are generally open throughout the day, with night illuminations in the evening.
