1. Nara Park
Nara Park is the most famous location in the city.
Hundreds of deer walk freely throughout the park.
Visitors can buy deer crackers and feed them. Early morning is usually the best time for photos because the park is quieter and the light is softer.
2. Mount Wakakusa (Wakakusayama)
Mount Wakakusa offers wide views of Nara city.
In spring, the hills turn bright green. In autumn, the leaves change to red and orange. Every January, the Wakakusa Yamayaki Festival burns the grass on the hillside.
3. Kasuga Taisha Shrine
Kasuga Taisha Shrine is known for its large number of stone and bronze lanterns.
These lanterns are lit during special festivals held in February and August. During these events, the shrine area looks very different from normal days.
4. Hasedera Temple
Hasedera Temple is known for its long wooden staircase and corridor.
In spring, cherry blossoms appear around the temple grounds. The elevated walkway also provides views of the surrounding garden and forest.
5. Mount Yoshino (Yoshinoyama)
Mount Yoshino is one of Japan’s best-known cherry blossom locations.
Thousands of cherry trees bloom across the mountain in spring. Because the trees are spread across the slopes, the entire mountain appears pink.
6. Hannya-ji Temple
Hannya-ji Temple is known for seasonal flowers.
Cherry blossoms and azaleas appear in spring. In autumn, many cosmos flowers bloom around the temple grounds.
7. NARA KINGYO MUSEUM
NARA KINGYO MUSEUM focuses on goldfish displays.
Colorful tanks with lighting create unique photo opportunities. The displays combine art, lighting, and aquariums.
8. Dorogawa Onsen
Dorogawa Onsen is a mountain hot spring town in Nara Prefecture.
Traditional inns and wooden buildings line the streets. The surrounding mountains create a very different atmosphere from central Nara.
